SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) is one of the most sought-after competitive exams in India, opening the door to prestigious government jobs across ministries, departments and organizations of the central government. The selection process for SSC CGL runs across four tiers, each testing a different skill set:
An online objective-type screening test: 100 MCQs across General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension (25 each, 2 marks per question, 200 marks total). Duration 60 minutes; 0.50 marks deducted per wrong answer.
An online CBT with four papers: Quantitative Abilities, English Language & Comprehension (compulsory for all), Statistics (for posts like Junior Statistical Officer) and General Studies — Finance & Economics (for Assistant Audit/Accounts Officer posts). Each paper carries 200 marks over 2 hours.
An offline pen-and-paper test in English or Hindi (Essay, Letter, Application or Precis) — 100 marks, 60 minutes. Tests grammar, vocabulary, structure and clarity of expression.
Either a Data Entry Skill Test (2,000 key depressions in 15 minutes) or a Computer Proficiency Test in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, depending on the post. Qualifying in nature, but critical for posts with a required skill level.
