SSC GD Constable is one of the most sought-after exams for candidates aiming to join the paramilitary forces and other defence agencies of the Government of India. Conducted by the SSC, it recruits constables for CAPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles. It's open to candidates who've completed 10th grade from a recognized board, and offers a promising career path with allowances, job security and growth opportunities.
10th pass, aged 18 – 23 years.
Selection runs across four stages: Computer-Based Examination (Tier I), Physical Efficiency Test (PET) / Physical Standard Test (PST), Medical Examination, and the Final Merit List.
100 MCQs across General Intelligence & Reasoning, GK & GA, Elementary Mathematics and English/Hindi (25 each). 90 minutes, 1 mark per question, 0.25 negative marking.
Checks height, chest measurement, weight and vision against SSC's minimum standards (slight variation for male/female candidates).
A pass/fail race — 5 km in 24 minutes for male candidates, 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes for female candidates — plus Long Jump / High Jump depending on category.
Checks vision standards (correctable) and overall health/fitness for the role; standards vary slightly by post (BSF, CISF, etc.).
The final merit list is based on Tier I marks combined with PET/PST performance. Candidates who clear the medical exam and meet all criteria are selected as Constable (GD) in one of the CAPFs or other security forces.
